2010 Bible Study & Preaching Plan

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________

In 2010, weÕre asking everyone in our church family to read through the entire New Testament together.

Our Bible reading will be the springboard for our sermons and small group discussions!

The plan is simple. There are 260 weekdays in one year, and 260 chapters in the New Testament.

So each weekday, youÕll read about one chapter (Matthew 1 to Revelation 22) in order to read the New

Testament. Then after reading the daily chapter, youÕll write down your thoughts in a notebook.

Weekends are available to Òcatch upÓ on any reading missed during the week, SundayÕs sermons will

highlight some of what weÕve read, and youÕll share some of what youÕve read and written with a

group or a partner along the way.  You could even pair with another person as Òaccountability partnersÓ

for healthy encouragement.

YouÕll need a good study Bible, a notebook, a pen, and a partner or a group in order to start with everyone else on Monday, January 4:

1.  Open your Bible to the reading under each dayÕs date.  Ask God to speak to you through His Word.  Read

     carefully through the entire chapter.

2.  When youÕre finished reading, write todayÕs date and Bible chapter number at the top of your notebook page.

Look for a verse that spoke to you today, and write it out in your notebook.  Follow the acrostic, SOAP:

S   Scripture:  Read one chapter, Monday – Friday.  Write out a verse in your notebook that spoke to you.

O  Observation:  Write down what you think God is saying to you in this Scripture.  Ask the Holy Spirit to teach

you and to reveal Jesus to you.  Paraphrase this Scripture and write it out in your own words.

A  Application:  How does this Scripture apply to your life?  How will you live differently because of it?  It may

show truth, expose rebellion, correct mistakes, or train you to live GodÕs way.

P  Prayer:  Ask God to help you use this Scripture or help you understand this insight.  Remember, prayer is a

two-way conversation, so be sure to listen to what God has to say!  Then, write it out.

3.  Discuss the highlights of your Bible reading and journaling with your group or partner at least twice a month.

Please pray and prepare to take this journey through the New Testament with us in 2010!
